“Lucien Brisdoux was a French ceramist, born in 1878 and who died in 1963. In 1905, he took over his father Achille Brisdoux’s pottery in Bonny-sur-Loire, in the Loiret. After purchasing a pottery in Saint-Amand in 1918, “La Poterie Neuve”, he set up his own workshop, assisted by Fernand Laurent. He devoted his work to decorative stoneware and focused his research on clays and glazes, which were notably taken up by Raoul Lachenal in 1924–1925, who produced a number of pieces in collaboration with him. Lucien Brisdoux is renowned for his work with metal oxides and the creation of metallic glazes (gold or platinum) with a dripped effect achieved by spraying creosote after applying ceramic gold. He sold his workshop in 1956.”
